Description

Scaleblock is Cloudtap's answer to hard water, offering a new conditioning solution that filters out the drawbacks of traditional water softeners.

  • No electricity.
  • No expensive separate appliance.
  • No stripping healthy minerals from your water.
  • No elevated sodium levels or concentrated brine backwash.

Limescale is a headache for millions of Australians, with anything touched by our mineral-rich water being marked with a clinging chalky residue that etches glass and reduces the lifespan of appliances. Rather than removing calcium ions like a traditional softener or ion exchange cartridge, Scaleblock uses a template-assisted crystallisation process to bond dissolved molecules into a harmless crystal powder. Unlike limescale, which often requires dedicated cleaning products and elbow grease, this powder wipes away easily and won't damage the surface it's left on.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The media inside a Scaleblock cartridge is designed to attract dissolved calcium carbonte and magnesium carbonate molecules into "templates" along the surface of each granule. As the molecules are drawn together, they naturally bond together—just like they would bond to your shower screen or the inside of your kettle—to form microscopic crystals.

Just like how clouds collect water until it gets heavy enough to fall as rain, these crystals will detach themselves once they grow too large for the templates that triggered their bond. Any calcium carbonate or magnesium carbonate molecules they come into contact with will naturally bond to the crystals, stabilising and losing their scale-causing abandonment issues. These crystals will remain intact for up to three months before reverting to their previous condition.

The Scaleblock cartridge is equipped with a 304 stainless steel mesh to prevent the internal media from leaking into your pipes, but we recommend always making sure there's at least one more layer of filtration between Scaleblock and your pipes, as extreme pressure spikes may damage the cartridge and cause leakage. You can tell when a Scaleblock cartridge needs replacing by unscrewing the top cap and checking the colour of the inner media; if it's bright yellow, it's time for a new one!
